The Helmdon Hurler is a gruelling (for some!) running event in Helmdon, Northamptonshire. The race covers a distance of 4.3 miles (6.92 km) and starts and finishes at the village pub, The Fat Landlord.

The inaugural Hurler was held on 30 August 2010 and has become an August Bank Holiday tradition in Helmdon.

The route combines the country lanes of Helmdon with the hard-surfaced "Astwell track". The route is gently undulating but not too difficult, even for beginner runners.

The Helmdon Hurler is a fun race for everyone - young and old, males and females, fit and not so fit. Treat it as a time trial, or amble around at your own pace. The event raises money for local groups and organisations.

The tenth Helmdon Hurler will take place, as usual, on the August Bank Holiday Monday. Bring your family and join in the post run festivities and with a BBQ and a pint.

Entry pricing

Adults (16+): £12 or £10 if UKA affiliated

Please note that during the registration process your British Athletics/UKA membership will be checked and if valid the appropriate discount will be applied. Scottish Athletics and Welsh Athletics members can also obtain the discount by entering their membership number into the appropriate field.

Under 16: £7

Applications from those under 16 years of age must be members of UKA affiliated clubs. It is your responsibility to check that the affiliated club has adequate insurance cover for those under 16 for this type of event. The organisers hold no responsibility for any applicant under the age of 16. All under 16s applications require a parent's signature confirming the above before they can participate (signature obtained on race day).

An administration fee of £1 will be applied to each order by our online entry system partner, Results Base.

As in 2014-17, Barry Cornelius plans to take photographs of this race for publication on his website www.oxonraces.com and for possible use by the press, and by running you accept this. You will be able to download his photos free of charge. If you do not wish your image to appear as a significant part of any photograph that he publishes or provides, you should put a bold red cross across your race number - felt tip pens will be provided at the Race HQ for this purpose.
