Total Racing International (TRI) is delighted to announce that the Newbiggin Sprint Triathlon will return to the North-East calendar on 10th September 2017. With the event being absent from the calendar for three years and after consultation between the two organisations and careful consideration on their part, VO2Max Racing Events have agreed to pass the baton on to TRI. With fantastic support from Newbiggin Town Council, both organisations are delighted to be instrumental in bringing this great event back to the North-East calendar and hope to see it thrive in the future.
VO2Max Racing Events have laid down some amazing foundations in Newbiggin since its inception and built the event to the point where it was part of the British Triathlon major events program as a qualifying event for the 2014 ETU European Sprint Distance Championships. TRI acknowledge this great achievement and vow use their ‘by athletes, for athletes’ approach to continue to operate the event to a fantastic standard and are committed to maintaining the exceptional athlete experience created by VO2Max.
The one-lap swim takes place in the beautiful bay, sheltered by the breakwater upon which stand the sculpted forms of Sean Henry’s ‘The Couple’. A 3-lap bike with CLOSED ROADS in the town centre gives spectators plenty of opportunity to take in the excitement of the event, while the 2-lap flat and super-fast run along the promenade brings the finishers over the line in front of great crowds against the backdrop of the emerging, revamped town centre and the stunning North Sea coast.
Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is an emerging Northumberland coastal town built on the foundations of fishing. Approximately 14 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne, it signals the gateway to the internationally renowned Northumberland coastline.
Please note that open water swimming experience is essential for this event.

Sprint: £50 (£45 for BTF members)
Relay: £70 (team of three)
Please note, if you have registered for the race using a BTF membership number you MUST present your membership card at registration or you will be required to pay a supplement for a Day Licence.
A booking fee of £1.50 per entrant will be added together with a small per-order charge (approximately 1.25%) to cover the cost of processing your debit or credit card.
