The R&R Corrosion Ythan Challenge is a multi-terrain adventure race which starts and finishes at the Meadows Sports Centre in Ellon, north of Aberdeen. The course takes runners along a largely flat off-road path beside the river Ythan and onto the beautiful Esslemont Estate, which is usually closed to the public. Once on the estate, the going gets tougher underfoot and you can expect a few surprises as the course includes a series of obstacles — including the now famous (or possibly infamous!) straw bales and killer hills and, of course, the river itself.
2019 will be the last year that Ythan Challenge will take place in the current format.
The standard entry fee for 2019 is £30 per person (minimum age 18).
There are prizes for the first, second and third men and women overall. There are also prizes for the first male and female 'veteran' (40-49), first male and female 'supervet' (50-59), and first male and female 'vintage' (60+). There are also prizes for the first open team, first uniform team and first corporate team, as well as spot prizes.
We have tweaked the entry process for 2019 to allow the dynamic creation of teams - this allows people to enter individually but to be able to join existing teams or create new ones as required. You can now also swap teams once you have signed up. Please note that a 'team' in this event is a collection of people running together, you can be a member of a running club AND be part of a team, you do not need to create teams for running clubs as that is already managed in your athlete record.
