Event Information
If there was ever an ideal location to stage a triathlon event, then Druridge Bay Country Park must be top of the list. The Northumberland triathlon is based in the centre of Druridge Bay Country Park, which is situated approximately 20 miles North of Newcastle upon Tyne and 3 miles south of the fishing village of Amble. Located right next to a stunning bay, on a beautiful stretch of Northumberland coastline, it’s a popular place to ride, cycle, walk, paddle and surf and perfect for a fun family day out.
The swim will be in the warm shallow freshwater Ladyburn Lake set within the park grounds. The bike route will take you out of the Country Park along a beautiful coastal route and the run will be a multi-lap route on the footpath that winds its way through the woods and meadows that surround the lake. The Northumberland triathlon will be another successful and enjoyable event attracting a wide range of competitors from all abilities. It’s a classic, straight forward and very well suited to beginners, equally attractive to seasoned competitors and those people wanting to move up from sprint to standard distance. An ideal race in your open water triathlon season!
Why not make a family day of it? The park comprises of three miles of beautiful beach and sand dunes, an outdoor children's play area, visitors centre and sheltered picnic area if you would like to relax! For the more energetic people, Amble's famous fish n' chip shops are only 3 miles away, the historic Warkworth Castle is 5 miles or you could just drive along the beautiful Northumberland coastal route taking in all that Northumberland has to offer.
