Raw Running are proud to be organising a testing, fun and off-road charity 10km trail run at Findon Village on Saturday 4th April 2020.

The location is second to none: based on Nepcote Green in the village, the course runs through a closed road section of the village before heading onto the South Downs along the Monarchs Way, the foothills of Cissbury Ring in the South Downs National Park and (TBC) a lap around the famous Chase / Gallop Horseracing Training Ground.

This is a charity event wilth all proceeds going to St John the Baptist Primary School at Findon.

The views around this part of the countryside are very impressive and we also have the privilege of the start/finish on Nepcote Green, where the historic sheep fair is held every September.

The postcode for the venue is BN14 0SL.

With this being Grand National Day* and the village’s racing history, why not run in a jockey’s outfit and win the prize for the best dressed Filly or Colt! In fact, to make sure we keep to the racing theme, you’ll need to register not only your full name, but that of your racing avatar! (an avatar is your alter ego or character!). So, will you be an Aldaniti, & Bob Champion from 1981? Or perhaps the classic Red Rum, Mr Frisk, L’Escargot or you could make up one of your own such as Aerobically Challenged, Cirque Du Sore Legs or a Miss Demeanour! The commentator will then mention you when you’re under starters orders!

Parking will be at Cissbury House which is only a short walk away. As this is a fundraiser for the village school, whilst the main race is taking place there’ll be series of fun ‘Furlong’ races for the kids around Nepcote Green – free entry & medals for the kids. Why not bring the family on Saturday morning, hot & cold drinks & the famous PTA BBQ will be fired up ready for you! The Protein Ball Co, our favourite energy food, will be on hand at the finish to provide you with your daily supplement – no bags of hay here!

If our other runs are anything to go by then this is likely to be very popular.

Competitor race numbers will be posted out the week before the event. There is no need to register unless you have forgotten your race number. The registration marquee will be at Nepcote Green by Wattle House and this is where the portable toilets will be. All competitors will receive a bespoke medals and race photographs from Sussex Sport Photography.

*What is the The Grand National? Considered to be one of the greatest steeplechases in the world, the Grand National is the symbol of racing. This iconic race sees jockeys, as well as trainers, go head to head in a bid to win the sport’s most famous prize. With nearly two and a half miles of turf to cover, it includes 16 individual fences which are as iconic as the race itself. These include the likes of the infamous Chair not to mention Bechers Brook where many thoroughbreds come a cropper. On the other hand, it is a real test for not only the horse, but the jockey who needs to maintain the pace of the ride throughout the race.
