The National Forest Way Virtual Challenge 2021

Information and registration

21 January 2021 -
30 April 2021

Your Lockdown Challenge

Brought to you by the organisers of the National Forest Trek, the National Forest Way Virtual Challenge is FREE to enter and invites you to walk 75 miles between now and the end of April. You can choose to walk as little or as far as you want on any given day, accumulating the miles as you go. You can complete it as quickly or slowly as you want and wherever you want, but please make sure you stay within the restrictions currently imposed by the government. Your house, garden, street, or local green space are all good starting points.

So how does it work?

Once you’ve signed up, you simply need to update the entry page with your latest distance and time walked and the system will look after the rest. You can also link your entry to your Garmin account, so your walking activities are automatically uploaded into the event!

As each mile is undertaken, you’ll see your personalised icon move along the map of the route. When you reach each major milestone along the 12 stages of the National Forest Way in the Midlands, you’ll see the appropriate black and white image change to full colour, unlocking interesting information about features along the route.

There will also be a special e-certificate that you can download upon completion of your 75-mile challenge.

Get your friends, family and colleagues involved too!

Why not set up or join a team? Setting up a team is quick and simple to do and everyone in the team can view the progress of team mates on the route map. Stay in touch whilst keeping fit and active from your front door.

You can enter for FREE at any time but the completion date for this challenge is 30th April 2021, after which we hope you’ll be able to explore the National Forest Way for real. To check out the 12 stages of the National Forest Way click here.

Something for everyone!

We recognise that not everyone will be in a position to undertake this challenge outdoors or as a ‘walker’. But the important thing is to just do what you can. We welcome wheelchair users to take on the challenge, and for anyone confined to the house but still mobile, why not use this challenge to keep you on the move?

The National Forest Way Virtual Challenge is organised by the team* behind the National Forest Trek, the charity challenge walk along the National Forest Way. Taking place 17 – 19 September 2021, the event features distances from 5km to the full 75 miles of the National Forest Way. For further details please click here.

*The organising team wish to thank Mark Ellis of the National Memorial Arboretum for his kind permission to use a number of his photographs within the My Overview section of this event.
