This perennial favourite is held at Woodhorn Museum in the QE2 Country Park which boasts a 16 hectare lake surrounded by developing woodland and open grasslands. The diverse and developing habitats around the lake now host a variety of birds, plants and mammals and the lake itself is host to both resident and migratory birds. The venue itself is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and has a range of fantastic activities and exhibits for all the family.

The QE2 Country Park is situated approximately 14 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne and 1 mile north of Ashington and this is our 'home' for open water swim training in the summer months.

The swim will be in the warm shallow freshwater lake. The 'undulating' bike route will take you out towards Widdrington Village, before sweeping onto the coast road near Druridge Bay and then along to Cresswell village with some breath-taking views along the coast line. The run will be on the footpath that winds its way through the woodland and open grasslands that surround the lake and passes the finish at the end of each lap making this ideal for spectators to cheer everyone on to a great finish with a big smile. The QE2 Woodhorn Museum Triathlon is an ideal multi-sport event for all abilities, and you should be guaranteed a great race.

We are pleased to announce that British Triathlon have awarded a 3 Star Mark of Quality to the QE2 'Woodhorn Museum' Triathlon. VO2Max Racing Events have one of only three events in the country to have attained this 3 Star Mark of Quality. This is a great achievement for the team and we pride ourselves on this and our continuing efforts to improve the standard of events in the North East Region.

Please note the minimum age for the sprint distance is 15 years old on 31st December 2017, and for the standard distance event is 17 years old on 31st December 2017. Please also note that all Youths (under 16 on 31st December 2017) must hand in a signed parental consent form at registration. The form can be downloaded from the event web page.

Please note that there will be no entries on the day.

Event Details and Schedule

The Event Team wish you all the best in your preparations and look forward to meeting you on Sunday 16th July at Woodhorn Museum, immediately adjacent to the QE2 Country Park.

Pre-race competitor information will be emailed to all competitors in advance of the event but provisional information is noted below. Please refer to the event website for course details.

Parking

There is ample parking in and around the race venue. If you are parking at the Museum, the staff will direct you upon arrival. There is a car parking charge at the Museum (£3.50 in 2016). This also allows you ‘All Day’ access to the exhibitions. Please have small change ready on arrival.

Registration Process

Race HQ and Registration will within the Museum grounds and will be clearly signed on the day. ALL competitors must present photographic identification at registration.

If you entered the event as a Home Nations member you must present your race licence at registration, or purchase a Day licence for £5 – no exceptions.

If you entered the event as a NON Home Nations Member, you will have already paid your day licence fee and an electronic day licence will be sent out with the pre-race competitor email.

You won't need to print this off as we have all your entry details recorded. It's there if you need it but hopefully that won't happen.
