Buttermere Trail Races 2019

Buttermere Trail Races 2019

Information and registration

Sunday
24 March 2019

A stunning trail race based in the beautiful Buttermere valley. Set amidst a dramatic landscape of high fells, this is an incredible circular route around the shores of Buttermere and Crummock Water.

PLEASE CHECK THE ROUTE AMENDMENTS ON THE EVENT WEBSITE FOR THE 2019 EVENT.

New for 2019: 20k & 8k Route Options...
Due to the possibility of not having a footbridge over Buttermere Dubs near to the start, we have decided to amend this year's course. There will now be two route options of 20k & 8k.
The footbridge which provides access to the western shoreline of Buttermere is currently being replaced. There was a temporary bridge in place to allow access. However, this has been removed for the winter period with the possibility of it not been there in time for the event. The new course is to start with a circuit around Buttermere Lake in a clockwise direction. This is a classic route described as "One of the best round-the-lake walks in the Lake District". Hopefully this should be a fantastic race...

It's an ideal route for all abilities, you do not have to be super-fast or an elite athlete to enter, perfect if you are new to trail running and looking for a new challenge.

Date: Sunday 24th March 2019

Start Time: 10:15am - 20k /10:30am - 8k

2019 Distances: 20k & 8k Route Options

Venue: Croft House Farm Cafe, Buttermere Village, Cumbria CA13 9XA

All routes will be fully marked so no navigation experience is necessary.

Course: PLEASE CHECK THE POSSIBLE ROUTE AMENDMENTS ON THE EVENT WEBSITE FOR THE 2019 EVENT. The initial section follows the southwest shoreline of Buttermere Lake through the beautiful setting of Burtness Woood at the base of Red Pike and High Stile. Returning through the woodland, the route then passes the spectacular waterfall of Sourmilk Gill before contouring along the western shoreline of Crummock Water at the base of Melbreak. Savour the views down the whole valley from the pine-clad northern shoreline of Lanthwaite Woods before returning along the eastern shores via the base of Rannerdale Knotts.

Terrain: A low level undulating route with a great combination of off-road running terrain throughout ranging from lakeshore trails, hard-packed rocky trails, grassy tracks and woodland singletrack. The initial part of the course is considered more technical as the terrain along the western shoreline of Crummock Water is generally wet & rough underfoot. The second part comprises more hard packed trails.

Entries: Minimum entry age 17 years old.

Included: Professionally run event, qualified and experienced personnel at various checkpoints, qualified medical support, online registration, fully marked routes, hydration stations and refreshments at finish, unique finishers medal (Please Note: The finishers medals were designed & ordered with the 10 mile distance on as they are ordered well in advance, before we were aware of the course changes, this will be the medal that 20k finishers will receive for this year's event).
