The Blaydon Race 2019

The race this year will be run on Sunday, 9th June
expected start at 7:15 pm

The Event

In 2019 we are again asking runners to meet up on Grey Street and they will then be walked around to the start on Collingwood Street. The overall distance is 5.4 miles from Newcastle City Centre, along Collingwood Street and Scotswood Road past Armstrong’s factory (Reece Group) over the Scotswood Bridge, along Chainbridge Road to finish in Morrison's car park in Blaydon. There’ll be music and dance at the start, along the course and at the finish.

NOTE: This year we will be finishing in Morrison’s car park making the race shorter at approximately 5.4 miles (exact distance TBC). Many thanks to Morrison’s for stepping in and allowing us to use their car park. Due to the changes the race will start at 7.15pm to allow us to set up the finish area after the shop closes and there will unfortunately be no Kids Race this year.

We emphasise that the Blaydon Race is a serious road race run under UK Athletics rules and not a sponsored walk: we will not accept entries from people who intend to walk.

Entry Fee

Entry for the 2019 race will be £26 with a £2 discount available to British Athletics/UKAA members - only one entry per order.

Your British Athletics/UKA membership will be entered and checked during the registration process and if valid the appropriate discount will be applied. Scottish and Welsh Athletics members can get the discount by entering their membership number into the appropriate box on the same page.

An administration fee of 6% will be applied to each order by our online entry system partner, Results Base.

All finishers will receive a tee-shirt, local beer, crisps, sandwich and soft drink. Results will be on the Results Base website (www.resultsbase.net). Runners have the option to receive an SMS text message with their race time immediately after crossing the finish line (if requested at the point of entry).

Entry process

Because of the massive interest in this event, online entry will be controlled through the Results Base queue system. Please ensure that you read up about this in advance of entries opening. The pre-queue will open approximately 15 minutes before the tickets go on sale at 7pm. Your queue position will be assigned randomly at 7pm, anyone joining the queue after 7pm will pick up the next available place.

Remember it's ONE entry per order and tonight (Tuesday) is open entry but UKA (and the Welsh and Scottish equivalent) members will still be able to register and obtain their discount.

Race numbers will be posted out to the address in your 'Athlete record' so please ensure that your address details are correct when you enter - see the FAQ pages for more details and remember to update both the profile and your athlete records from previous years. Do this before you enter!

Race Charity 2019

We are pleased to say that the official race charity for 2019 is Metro Radio Cash for Kids. Please take the time to read about the charity below. You will be given the option to donate during the entry process, every little helps.

Cash for Kids is a local charity, and it is our mission to support local children who are disabled, disadvantaged, sick, or suffering from abuse or neglect, from the ages of 0-18. All the funds for the charity are raised locally, and redistributed locally, to individuals, families and other charities dedicated to improving the lives of young people.

We are proud to operate an 80% contribution across the UK, with clear visibility on where the money goes and who it is helping. However, at Metro Radio Cash For Kids, our last audit showed that our contribution was much higher, with at least 90 pence in every pound donated going directly to the children we help and support.

This year, we hope to support lots more children in the region. Year on year, the need for support for children across the North East is growing. As such, the Cash For Kids targets are increasing. This year, it is our aim to raise over £2.5 million to help local children. Without the support of the public, local businesses, donations and grants from trusts, it would be impossible for us to meet this target and continue our life altering work. With the help and support of The Blaydon Race we can make a difference the lives of local children
