The Pier2Pier Sea Swim Isle of Wight is a 1.8 mile open water event organised by the Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club, under the auspices of the British Long Distance Swimming Association (BLDSA). The swim starts adjacent to Sandown Pier and follows the Sandown to Shanklin Bay, a stunning stretch of coastline lined by dramatic sandstone cliffs. The race ends on the beach outside the Shanklin Rowing Club, which is located by the site of the old Shanklin Pier that was destroyed in the gales of 1987.
We welcome independent and club swimmers, skins and wetsuit* swimmers. Our aim is to organise a friendly and enjoyable event, whilst providing a challenge for all swimmers. Trophies will be awarded for various swim-stroke, age and team categories, with a commemorative keepsake presented to each winning swimmer.
We are delighted to introduce a 15-17 age category for the first time in 2024, offering a great opportunity for younger open water swimmers to gain competition experience in a supportive environment**.
The entry price includes refreshments at the end of the race, a premium quality hat and goody bag, event insurance, and transportation of one bag of personal effects to the race finish.
Family and friends can enjoy a stroll along the Esplanade walk that tracks the route of the Pier2Pier Sea Swim, taking in beautiful sandy beaches as well as some delightful coffee and lunch stops along the way! More than half of the Island is a designated “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”, with its mild climate, stunning coastline and fascinating history, making it the perfect place to stay for a few days either before or after the event. For those travelling over from the mainland, the following discounts are being offered for travel between 19th and 21st July. Use the code or link provided on your receipt to obtain these:

*Please be aware that wetsuit swimmers will be eligible for the relevant wetsuit trophy only, and not the other categories open to non-wetsuit swimmers. Please enter the wetsuit category if you will be wearing any type of neoprene swimwear, with the exception of non-webbed gloves and/or boots.
**Swimmers in the 15-17 age category will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult on the day of the swim, both before and after the event. Wetsuits will be compulsory and proof of membership of a Swim-England affiliated swim club will be required.
